Book Club is back! This year, we're reading The Mind of Plants: Narratives of Vegetal Intelligence, an anthology with lots of cool contributors! The book is quite the hefty volume, with each chapter devoted to a specific type of plant. To keep it simple and ease back into book club activities, we'll just be discussing a handful of chapters. In-person meetings will be at Push/Pull every other Tuesday, 7:15pm - 8:30pm, starting April 11th, with the following chapter itenerary:
You can also discuss any of these (or other chapters!) online at any time on our Discord server! Book Club Group ShowArtists are invited to submit work inspired by their favorite chapter(s) for a group show in July. We'll have a group work and peer review/critique/feedback session on June 13th!
We're thrilled to have Marie Okuma Johnston as our Artist Resident this year!
Marie will be working in our studio for the next few months on pieces for a June show called Gendai Hyakki Yagyo ("Modern Day Parade of Demons") which will showcase current events told through old Japanese folktales. Look forward to it! Thank you again to everyone who applied as well. It was great looking at everyone's work, and there will definitely be more opportunities for you all in the future! 💖
We've nearly made it through the winter, and there's less than a month until we change those clocks again for those sweet, sweet 7pm sunsets!
As such, we're excited to announce our next market! This time we'll be just down the block in Old Ballard, at Salmon Bay Eagles. It's gonna be two days of rad artists and artisans slingin' their goods, so come out and support them!
Are you a rad artist or artisan?? Then we look forward to your vendor application! The deadline is March 13th, but we'll be reviewing them as we receive them, so the sooner you apply, the sooner you'll have an answer!
We've put our new risograph machine through the paces, learned its ins and outs, and are now ready to offer printing services to others!
Like a strange hybrid between screenprinting and xerox duplicating, risograph is a unique way to make your book, zine, or print really stand out! After a year off, Stanza makes its triumphant return with an optimistic theme: Solarpunk! (Wtf is that?)
Send us your poems of joy and hope in spite of doom and disaster. Selected poems will be paired with artists for a visual interpretation, and poems and art will be published together in a book. See the application below!
We're excited to introduce an Artist Residency Program with the goal of supporting and helping emerging artists establish a strong career foundation by creating, exhibiting, and publishing a cohesive body of work.
Over the course of three months, a selected artist will be provided:
At the end of the residency period, the artist will have a solo exhibition at Push/Pull and the opportunity to publish a book collecting their new work. Can you believe it? Push/Pull is turning NINE! We couldn't have done it without you, so come celebrate with us Saturday, January 7th, 6-9pm.
We'll have product specials, mystery gifts, and will be unveiling our 2023 VIP Club shirt design by Ballard's own Specswizard. You'll be able to sign up for our VIP Club and get your shirt or tote that night! ♥ We can't wait to see you there! Weather's a bit rough this week so we may be opening a little later on days when there's snow on the roads. Our aim is still to open at 10am every day though, and we're open a little later Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tuesday, December 20: 10 am - 8pm Wednesday, December 21: 10 am - 8pm Thursday, December 22: 10 am - 9pm Friday, December 23: 10 am - 9pm Saturday, December 24: 10 am - 6pm Sunday, December 25: CLOSED Next week, we're open regular hours the 26th through the 30th.
