We're excited to announce GROWTH as our theme for next year's Stanza, our annual art & poetry collaboration anthology and gallery show!
Poets are invited to submit poetry inspired by plants and fungi. 🌱 Accepted poems will be paired with artists for visual interpretation. Poets can submit work for consideration, and artists can apply to be considered for pairing until January 18th. You can submit as both a poet and an artist. All work will be published in 2026's Stanza book to be released in April, which is National Poetry Month! Artwork will also be featured in a gallery show coinciding with the book launch on April 11. We want to tell people that there is a better way, something we can all work towards.
First, tell us something that happened to you or someone you know. Then, tell us how it could be different, better, more equitable, kinder. Stories will be reviewed and selected by Riff Raff League, an open community organizing group hosted by Push/Pull. We'll publish the stories in a free zine that will be distributed to Little Free Libraries throughout the Northwest Seattle area, online, and hopefully will reach even farther. We're looking for stories that are no more than one letter size page typed (approx 400-450 words). Send questions to [email protected]. Accepting submissions through November 15. Turn over a leaf. Dig inside the couch cushions. Pick something off the bottom of your shoe. There are poems everywhere, for those willing to look. Push/Pull's annual poetry collection, Stanza, invites wordsmiths to be the imagemakers and artists to be the poets. Using both word and image, artists are invited to submit work that crosses genres—however you choose to interpret it. Found poems, collage, poetry comics, and any other combination of language and visuals are welcome! Stanza: Lost & Found will be printed in up to 2 colors on Risograph. Contributors will receive a contributor copy and a $50 gift card for Push/Pull's printing services, art supplies, or classes.
This year's Book Club pick is A Journey into the Interior of the Earth by Jules Verne (often also translated as Journey to the Center of the Earth), a classic science fiction tale first published in French in 1864. Push/Pull Press & Vertvolta Press are collaborating on an illustrated edition of Journey to the Interior of the Earth. Book Club participants will be invited to contribute visual pieces inspired by the novel to this edition of the book, which will then be available at Push/Pull. All readers are welcome to participate in the Book Club though, whether or not your goal is to make art! We will meet every Monday in June and July at Push/Pull to discuss the relevant chapters for each session. Come to as many meetings as you're able! The theme for this year is Nonbinary. We are only accepting submissions from poets and artists that identify as nonbinary, agender, genderqueer, gender non-conforming, or other gender identities outside of male or female. Accepted poems will be paired with an artist to visually interpret the poem. Interested? Please apply by February 15th! The seasons are about to shift again and our Bal-Art team is gearing up for our fall market! Come celebrate this transitional time with all your best spooky creations!
This market will be ONE DAY ONLY, so don't wait to apply! Applications are open through September 1st, but vendors are accepted on a rolling basis, so the sooner we hear from you, the sooner we can respond! Summer is nearly upon us, and there's so much happening!
Rather than compete with all the Solstice events, we're lining up with Ballard Seafood Fest for a Midsummer Market! Join us at our very haunted venue in the heart of Old Ballard for two days of art slinging and general revelry! Artists are invited to submit work inspired by their favorite chapter(s) from The Mind of Plants -- our Book Club pick this year -- for a group show in July. We'll have a group work and peer review/critique/feedback session on June 13th!
Book Club is back! This year, we're reading The Mind of Plants: Narratives of Vegetal Intelligence, an anthology with lots of cool contributors! The book is quite the hefty volume, with each chapter devoted to a specific type of plant. To keep it simple and ease back into book club activities, we'll just be discussing a handful of chapters. In-person meetings will be at Push/Pull every other Tuesday, 7:15pm - 8:30pm, starting April 11th, with the following chapter itenerary:
You can also discuss any of these (or other chapters!) online at any time on our Discord server! Book Club Group ShowArtists are invited to submit work inspired by their favorite chapter(s) for a group show in July. We'll have a group work and peer review/critique/feedback session on June 13th!
We've nearly made it through the winter, and there's less than a month until we change those clocks again for those sweet, sweet 7pm sunsets!
As such, we're excited to announce our next market! This time we'll be just down the block in Old Ballard, at Salmon Bay Eagles. It's gonna be two days of rad artists and artisans slingin' their goods, so come out and support them!
Are you a rad artist or artisan?? Then we look forward to your vendor application! The deadline is March 13th, but we'll be reviewing them as we receive them, so the sooner you apply, the sooner you'll have an answer!
